Raging Rae rues Dark Blues exit

Dundee player-manager Alex Rae
Rae was disappointed with his team's showing at Palmerston Park

Dundee manager Alex Rae rued missed chances as his side were sunk 2-0 by Queen of the South in the Scottish Cup quarter-final at Palmerston Park.

"I thought just before they scored we had gilt-edged chances - I don't know how we didn't score," said Rae.

"It's disappointing because this was a good opportunity for us to progress to a semi-final."

"Queen of the South bettered us in most departments and, overall, probably deserved the win today."

The Dark Blues boss - who named himself among the substitutes - lamented the absence of several key players for the Palmerston tie.

"We had too many key players missing - five or six from last week," he added.

"It was always going to be difficult and we just weren't up to the task.

"The first goal was the turning point - the ball travelled 60 yards in the air but Stephen Dobbie was the only guy to react. That's poor defending to say the least."
