Zura Khizinishvili signed for Rangers in the summer |
Rangers have angered Dundee by asking the Dens Park club to return a sum of money originally paid as a deposit for a compensation deal involving Zura Khizanishvili. A Scottish Premier League tribunal last week ruled that Rangers owed Dundee nothing for Khizanishvili, who moved to Ibrox in July under freedom of contract.
And now Rangers want their money back.
Fifa regulations stipulate that clubs should receive payment for the nurturing and development of players under the age of 23.
And Dundee, who valued at the Georgian international defender at 2m, were outraged that the SPL dismissed their claim on technical grounds. It was argued by Rangers' lawyers that the letter to 21-year-old Khizinishvili offering him new terms at Dundee did not constitute a legal approach and therefore the club had not made the correct moves to keep the player.
However, Rangers had made an original offer of 75,000 and SPL rules state that half of that money must be paid up front.
Now Rangers have written to Dundee asking for the 37,500 to be repaid with interest.
A Dundee spokesman said: "We will leave others to judge the appropriateness of Rangers' actions.
"We have not stayed still on this issue. We remain confident of being able to present a very strong appeal to the SPL decision and will lodge papers before the end of the week."
