Doncaster boss O'Driscoll paid tribute to scorer Lee |
Boss Sean O'Driscoll feared Doncaster would pay for losing a two-goal lead in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy final, which they won 3-2 after extra time. After the victory over Bristol Rovers, O'Driscoll said: "Despite being 2-0 up we never really settled. I could see us giving Bristol a way back.
"We were almost made to pay the price. However, I thought we looked the team most likely to score in extra time."
But Jason Price may be out for the season with an Achilles tendon injury.
Price was carried off early in the second half and missed his side's extra-time winner after being taken to hospital.
Graeme Lee scored the goal that secured Doncaster's first Football League trophy and O'Driscoll was quick to pay tribute to his captain.
He added: "He can head the ball in both boxes.
"He is not the biggest in the world but he attacks the ball well and when it is delivered with that kind of quality it makes him even more dangerous."
O'Driscoll also singled out Doncaster's first goalscorer Paul Heffernan for praise.
"He was touch and go against Bristol City in the league last week and I had to decide whether to play him and risk putting him out of the cup final," he said.
"That would have been a gamble so I did not do it. He has trained well all week in the build-up to this and you only have to see his goal to understand what he brings to the table.
"It is something we have been missing and you can't put a price on that kind of player, who can score you goals like that."
