Nigel Clough keen on transfer activity at Derby County

Derby County manager Nigel Clough says he is keen to make use of the current transfer window.

The Rams are 13th in the Championship, five points adrift of the play-offs, and have until 2 February to make any new signings.

Clough told BBC Radio Derby: "We are trying and we have indentified one or two players, loans and permanent.

"We are working with the chief executive [Tom Glick] and the board to try and get them in."

Celtic's defender Glenn Loovens is one player being linked with the Rams, but Clough was coy when asked if the club had millions to spend.

"You would have to speak to the powers that be when you start talking figures like that," he said.

"Anybody we feel that is better than in our squad at the moment we will take them if we can.

"You will probably get a better quality loan, from a Premiership club, or another Championship club, than we could afford to buy a player at the moment.

"It's about the quality of the player coming in, not really whether it is loan or permanent."
