Derby County have completed the signing of Southend teenager Medi Abalimba following a successful trial spell.
The 17-year-old midfielder has joined for an undisclosed fee after spending several weeks at Pride Park.
Southend head of youth policy Ricky Duncan told the club's website: "This is a good deal for the club and in the best interests of everyone involved."
Abalimba also had trial spells at Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City last season.
