Derby County manager Paul Jewell says the club is hoping to tie up a short-term deal with defender Darren Powell ahead of Saturday's trip to Ipswich.
Jewell said the 32-year-old has agreed a deal until the end of the year.
"We've had countless knock backs from Premier League clubs regarding centre halves," Jewell told BBC Radio Derby.
Darren is available, he knows the Championship, he's an old fashioned defender and it just gives a bit of cover until the end of December."
Powell was released by Southampton at the end of last season.
