Derby County boss Paul Jewell has condemned the staging of international friendlies at this stage of the season.
The Rams boss is missing four players as he prepares for Saturday's match with Ipswich, three of whom are playing in friendlies.
"It's complete madness," he told BBC Radio Derby.
"You never want to stop people representing their country but the only way to do it would be for the FA to pay the players' wages for friendly games."
Jewell added: "I tell you what, you'd get less friendlies, but I think that's the only way forward."
"And do the players come back fit or do they come back injured?
"It's a bit of a nightmare time at the moment," he concluded.
