Derby County manager Paul Jewell is to hand a trial to Galway United winger James O'Shea.
The 20-year-old is set to play in a behind-closed-doors friendly with Crewe Alexandra on Tuesday.
Several newspaper reports have suggested a deal has already been agreed, with a fee settled, but the Rams are yet to confirm it.
The youngster has represented the Republic of Ireland at all youth levels from under-18s to under-23s.
O'Shea scored 10 goals for Galway this season and helped them avoid relegation from the Eircom League Premier Division at the weekend.
Galway are managed by former Rams skipper Jeff Kenna.
