Derby County midfielder Stephen Pearson could be on his way to Birmingham City for 1m, BBC Radio Derby understands.
It is believed that Blues manager Alex McLeish is lining up Pearson as a replacement for Olivier Kapo, who is set to join Wigan Athletic.
Chairman of football Adam Pearson said: "There are some clubs interested in Stephen, but as yet no formal offers.
"It's possible a deal might be done next week. That's more of a possibility than probability at the moment."
He added: "If we get an offer, we'll discuss it with the player."
The 25-year-old Scottish international had a loan spell at Stoke City towards the end of last season but a permanent transfer never followed.
It is understood Pearson could make his move to St Andrew's as early as next week.
