Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood says he hopes Kris Commons' future lies at the City Ground following the club's promotion to the Championship.
Midfielder Commons, 24, is out of contract in the summer and has been strongly linked with a move to arch rivals Derby County.
But Calderwood told BBC Radio Nottingham: "A great progression for him and us will be to stick together.
"I know where his heart is and how much it means to him when he plays for us."
Rams boss Paul Jewell has said he will not talk about the possibility of signing the winger.
He told BBC Radio Derby: "It's not right to comment on speculation.
"It is something that makes the papers go round. I'm not going to speak about any player coming to the football club until it is 100% certain."
Derby have also been strongly linked with Plymouth defender Paul Connolly and Watford's Jordan Stewart.
