Derby County want to sign striker Jon Stead from Sheffield United, reports BBC Radio Sheffield. The Blades, who were relegated from the Premier League last season, are understood to be considering an offer from the Rams for the 24-year-old.
Stead had a spell on loan at Derby last season when he was a Sunderland player but switched to Bramall Lane on a permanent transfer in January.
The striker has scored seven goals in 16 appearances for the Yorkshire club.

Stead started his career at his home-town club Huddersfield in 2002 but was sold to Blackburn for �1.25m in February 2004.
At the end of the following season, in July 2005, he was sold to Sunderland for �1.8m but scored only two goals in 22 league starts, with a further 13 substitute appearances.
The Blades paid �750,000 for the forward, who scored twice in the 3-1 Carling Cup win over Chesterfield on 14 August.
Meanwhile, Derby manager Billy Davies has denied that he is interested in signing Portsmouth striker David Nugent.
Davies managed Nugent at Preston but said: "I am not sure who is more surprised by this news, me or David Nugent."
