Jamie Chandler was one of several Quakers players to impress Colin Todd
Darlington boss Colin Todd has praised his players for their response to Saturday's defeat by Aldershot in the 1-0 defeat by Leeds United on Monday.
The Quakers were knocked out of the League Cup by the Yorkshire club but Todd believes there were plenty of positives to the display.
"I thought we acquitted ourselves very well in terms of passing and organisation," he told BBC Tees.
"They gave us some respect tonight, and we didn't shut up shop."
Todd was left disappointed by a poor start against Aldershot at the Recreation Ground on Saturday, and admitted the outlook from his players had improved from the weekend defeat.
"We had trust and belief in each other, and now we look to Saturday," he said.
"The boys need to be mentally switched on, the league game against Bury is our bread and butter and we have to get our first win.
"If we improve on certain aspects such as passing and moving, there were good spells but we couldn't sustain it."
Meanwhile, Todd also highlighted the contribution of Sunderland duo David Dowson and Jamie Chandler after two games in Darlington colours.
Dowson and Chandler, both 20, are on a one-month loan and Todd is delighted with their qualities.
"Chandler's come in and given us some energy and balance, he's got ability on the ball," he said.
"And the lad Dowson's given us pace up front and the ability to get goals."
