Darlington manager Dave Penney fears that geography may sometimes count against the Quakers when he is trying to bring players to Teesside. "Location is a big factor - players are settled and don't want to upset family," he told the club website.
"We have agreed fees for three or four players - some didn't want to come this far north, which is frustrating.
"But I'd rather people say they don't want to come, rather than coming for three months and getting unsettled."
Penney has signed eight players this summer - Stephen Foster, Alan White, Kevin McBride, John Brackstone, Scott Wiseman, Andy Oakes, Rob Purdie and Neil Austin.
