George Burley has made his first signing as Crystal Palace manager with former Ipswich defender David Wright agreeing a two-year deal.

Full-back Wright, 30, made almost 130 appearances for Ipswich before being released by boss Roy Keane.

His arrival coincides with Palace confirming that Danny Butterfield, Matt Lawrence and Clint Hill are leaving.

They follow Johannes Ertl and Shaun Derry, who have already joined Sheffield United and QPR respectively.

Wright told the club website: "I have played 80-90% of my career in the Championship so I know this league very well.

"I think fans should be excited about this new era."

Burley is keen to bring new players into the squad to ensure he can replicate the playing system which served him during his time at Ipswich.

Wright added: "When the gaffer was at Ipswich he did an incredible job and I spoke to the players who played under him there and they had nothing but good words to say about him.

"He told me he wants to play a passing game, moving the ball around quickly which suits me."

The squad start pre-season training on Thursday ahead of the new Championship campaign getting underway at home to Leicester City on 8 August.
