Boss Warnock warns in-form Kuqi

Palace striker Shefki Kuqi

Crystal Palace manager Neil Warnock says he intends to sell striker Shefki Kuqi in the January transfer window, despite his recent goal-scoring form.

The Finn, 32, has scored in Palace's last two Championship games to help them soar to fifth in the table.

"With the television cameras there, I should have got one of those sale signs and put it on Shefki's chest," Warnock told BBC Sport.

"We may get a club interested now in taking him with his wages."

Kuqi's high wages are the reason his stay at Selhurst Park looks destined to end, although Warnock admits the frontman might not attract a buyer in the new year.

"If nobody comes in for him, he'll be with us to the end of the season," added the former Sheffield United manager after watching Kuqi score the first of Palace's goals in Monday's 3-0 home win over Southampton.

Kuqi had failed to shine at Palace after being signed by former Eagles boss Peter Taylor from Blackburn Rovers for 2.5m in August 2006.

If he starts thinking he's a footballer, he's a waste of time

In fact, his stock fell so low he was reduced to training with the youth team before an injury crisis prompted his recall in September.

Now back in favour, he scored the winner against Derby on Saturday and then made it five goals for the season against Saints.

"I thought he was excellent," said Warnock. "He was dominant. He caused a problem all night.

"He's playing to his strengths and he's doing what he's good at.

"If he starts thinking he's a footballer, he's a waste of time. If he plays like Shefki Kuqi can, he's a handful for anybody, not just in the Championship but anywhere."

But what about Kuqi himself? Well, he says whether he stays or goes is down to the Palace.

"It's not my decision, it's the club's decision to make," said the Kosovo-born player. "I'm just going to do my talking on the pitch. At the moment, things are going well."
