Eriksson became director of football at Notts County on Wednesday
Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson is surprised that former club Notts County have managed to attract Sven-Goran Eriksson to the League Two club.
Former England boss Eriksson was the surprise choice to become the new director of football at Meadow Lane.
Thordarson, who managed Notts County during the 2005-06 season, told BBC Radio Stoke: "It shows they have crazy money to spend there.
"I thought they would have picked someone else, but money talks."
The Swede was appointed on Wednesday, just days after the Magpies were taken over by a Middle Eastern consortium.
Since Eriksson's arrival, County have signed striker Lee Hughes on a free transfer from Oldham, which further shows Thordarson that they will be a force in League Two next season.
"We can't expect Notts County to be flirting with things (at the bottom of the table)," added Thordarson.
"They've signed a centre forward with something that is not available for other clubs in League Two. It will be interesting to look at."
Crewe play Notts County at Meadow Lane on 24 October, with the return fixture taking place at the Alexandra Stadium on 20 March.
