Donaldson targets goals for Alex

Crewe Alexandra striker Clayton Donaldson says their firepower can help them win promotion next season.

The 25-year-old is looking to build on his first pre-season goal he scored against Nantwich Town in the friendly at Hyde United on Thursday.

"We have some good strikers for League Two and I do think the competition in the squad is healthy for everyone," Donaldson told BBC Radio Stoke.

Donaldson joined the Alex last season from Hibernian for £125,000.

Donaldson netted just seven times after his six-figure move from the Scottish Premier League and has endured a lean two years after being a regular goalscorer with York City in the Blue Square Premier.

During his time with the Minstermen he netted 42 goals in 91 appearances before his move north of the border.

The striker has received support from his manager Gudjon Thordarson, he told BBC Radio Stoke: "If Clayton manages to put his goal-scoring record right he is going to be a lethal player for us next season."
