Crewe caretaker manager Dario Gradi was delighted to record a win in his final game in charge of the Alex.
Sunday's 4-1 win at Hartlepool marked the last game before new manager Gudjon Thordarson assumes control at the Alexandra Stadium.
Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'm pleased to get three points from our two Christmas games and welcome Gudjon in with a win.
"It was a brilliant result and the players will take confidence from it."
Gradi has been back in charge at the Alex since Steve Holland was relieved of his duties in November.

He will now return to his role as the club's technical director but said he would be happy to be involved with the first team if required.
"I don't think I'll need to be involved because Gudjon has said he wants to do the work," said Gradi.
"But obviously if Gudjon wants me to help him then I will, because that's what I'm here for."
Thordarson's first game in charge of the Alex will be Saturday's FA Cup third round trip to Millwall (3 January, 1500 GMT).
