Gradi not long-term answer - Cox

Former Crewe captain Neil Cox has said Dario Gradi is not the right man to take over as manager permanently.

Gradi, Alex boss between 1983 and 2007, has been placed in caretaker charge of the club after Steve Holland was relieved of his duties on Tuesday.

Cox told BBC Radio Stoke: "He has major experience of the football club but I'm not sure that's the way to go.

"For now Dario will do a good job, but long-term maybe someone from outside the club should come in as manager."

The 37-year-old, who retired from playing in May, ended his career with the Alex after joining from Cardiff in June 2006.

He said there will be no shortage of candidates interested in stepping into the hotseat at the Alexandra Stadium.

"I'm sure there would be lots of people who would want to work for Crewe because it's a fantastic club," said Cox.

"It's a matter if Dario will help bring people into the club because a problem you are always going to have is the say he has there."
