Crewe Alexandra striker Shaun Miller says he is in good condition to make an impact this season.
First team coach Steve Holland has told him he is in his plans and has an important role to play this year.
Miller told BBC Radio Stoke: "I feel ready to challenge for a regular starting place, this is a big season for me."
The 21-year-old, who is a product of the club's academy, started seven games last season scoring one goal.
New signings Calvin Zola and Joel Grant will provide Miller with some stiff competition for a place in the Alex starting line up for opening game against Brighton on 9 August.
The Railwaymen are also understood to be still interested in signing the Leeds United striker Anthony Elding.
