Crewe Alexandra captain Neil Cox is set to undergo surgery on his shoulder to cure a long-standing problem. Cox is likely to go under the knife after Saturday's visit of Carlisle and will be out for around six weeks.
First-team coach Steve Holland told BBC Radio Stoke: "He has been struggling with a problem with his shoulder for a while but has continued to play.
"The problem is deteriorating all the time. It is not something we can wait for until the end of the season."
