Chris McCready will make a return journey to Crewe after deciding to leave League One rivals Tranmere. McCready, 25, left Crewe 12 months ago but will return to Gresty Road on 1 July after agreeing a two-year deal with the Railwaymen.
He previously made 85 appearances for Crewe before switching to Tranmere, where he started 47 games last season.
Meanwhile, striker Michael Higdon, 23, is to leave Crewe after turning down the offer of a new contract.
