Crewe boss Dario Gradi says defender Billy Jones could leave the club when the transfer window reopens in January. The Alex are to discuss the future of the 19-year-old at the next board meeting after he turned down the offer of a new contract.
Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke: "It could be in the best interests of the club to sell him, but he may change his mind.
"If he does agree a new deal and we get an offer we think is good for him we would still be prepared to let him go."
Jones would be able to join a new club when his current contract expires in the summer - but Crewe would be entitled to compensation as he is under the age of 24.
