Boss Dario Gradi breathed deeply after Crewe's last-gasp survival, but said he had experienced a more dramatic finale. "Early on in my time here we had to beat Burnley on the final day to stay in the Football League.
"That threatened the very future of the club, and while this game was important, it never did that.
"I didn't give tuppence for our chances in the first half, but we made some changes at half time and we got the goals to keep us up."
The 2-1 victory over Coventry was only Crewe's second of the year and the first since Dean Ashton left to join Norwich in early January.
"Obviously it's a terrific result for us. I can't believe we've stayed up by one goal. It's amazing,"
"We have been in this league seven out of the last eight years. I didn't think we would stay in this league that long so we will enjoy it.
"We know it's going to be even harder next year and so we are going to have to find a way of improving ourselves. But that's from maybe Monday or Tuesday onwards.
"We have not played that well since Christmas, we haven't even played well today. But the players fought so hard today. You couldn't fault them."
