The Crewe midfielder, 21, was given the go-ahead to leave to gain experience but a practice match with the Spireites was postponed because of illness.

"I'm not telling him I want him to go out on loan but if he wants to he can. He was all set to go to Chesterfield," boss Dario Gradi told Crewe's website.

Rix has yet to make a first-team appearance for the Alex this season.
