Crawley scorer Matt Tubbs and boss Steve Evans look forward to round five

Crawley Town manager Steve Evans feels his side are capable of progressing further in the FA Cup, no matter who they face in the fifth round.

The Blue Square Bet Premier side won 1-0 at Torquay to become only the the sixth non-league side to reach the last 16 since the end of World War Two.

Evans said: "We are proud to get where we are and now we want a kind draw.

"If it is, fantastic, but whoever we get in the fifth round, we will go and try to win like we did at Torquay."

Matt Tubbs scored Crawley's winner in a thrilling fourth-round tie at Plainmoor in which Gulls keeper Scott Bevan saved two penalties and a player from each side was sent off.

Town had already beaten Swindon and Derby in the Cup this season and Evans added: "We expected to come here and win. We said it and we have done it.

"I think you have to give us a lot of credit for the way we played. If the first penalty had gone here then I think we might have won rather more comfortably."

Crawley join holders Chelsea and the likes of Manchester United and Aston Villa in the fifth-round draw, which takes place at 1610 GMT on Sunday.

And Evans is adamant that he will not change his attacking approach even if his side come up against a giant next.

"I know that may sound stupid coming from the manager of a non-league club," he stated. "But we played three up front here today and if we were at Old Trafford we would do the same.

"I am sure as manager that my players would want to go and play the system and the way we are used to, keeping the ball down, playing passing football, if we were to get to the wonderful stage of a Premier League ground rather than 10 v 10 marking players.

"I have asked them to enjoy every Cup day that we have had and that won't change."

Crawley, currently two points off the top of the Blue Square Premier but with four games in hand on leaders AFC Wimbledon, have already spent heavily on what they call 'Project Promotion' in a bid to earn Football League status.

But Evans revealed that he might bring in more players before the transfer window shuts on Monday.

"It's fantastic for the owners that we are through to the last 16 for the first time," he added.

"Obviously by progressing in the FA Cup we might encounter some fixture congestion ahead - and now we might do some transfer business before the window closes that wasn't planned."

Torquay boss Paul Buckle, who saw his side miss out on their first appearance in the fifth round in their 111-year history, was left to rue what might have been.

"We weren't at our best, I'll hold my hands up and say that although it was an unbelievable game with all the incidents in the game, especially the second half," Buckle reflected.

"We have had lots of good days at Plainmoor but this was not a good day for us."
