Crawley chairman Majeed bows out
Crawley Town chairman Azwar Majeed has resigned as the club seeks to safeguard its future in the Conference.

Majeed, in control for 12 months before Crawley went into administration this summer, believes the move will help fans concentrate on football matters.

"It has been a difficult but necessary decision," said a club statement.

"Azwar will focus on his other businesses in order to generate sufficient revenue to meet the future financial requirements of the club."

Majeed will continue to maintain his financial commitments to Crawley, who remain under threat of liquidation after going into administration in June with debts of 1.4m.

"Azwar thanks many of the fans who have shown their support through the turbulence of the past year. They have brought strength and encouragement to the club," added the statement.

The Majeed family have offered creditors 50 pence in the pound to regain ownership, a figure still be approved at a creditors' meeting next week to stop Crawley from folding.

Crawley started the season with a 10-point penalty for going into administration, but have almost wiped that out by winning their first three matches.

Sue Todman, who previously sat on the club's board, has taken over as chairman for an interim period while a new chairman is sought.
