Coventry chairman Mike McGinnity has hit out at potential buyer Jojar Dhinsa for not approaching him directly. The 29-year-old financier, worth an estimated 40m, has gone public with his intention to buy the club and turn them into a Premiership force.
But McGinnity said: "If he was serious, I would have thought he'd have the decency to have contacted me.
"You don't talk about buying a club without contacting the chairman. But I haven't met or spoken to the guy."
Dhinsa claims he and a group of backers from the Russian oil industry are prepared to emulate Roman Abramovich's 200m injection of cash into Chelsea.
"I hadn't heard of the guy until recently and although I'm not questioning at all his wealth or his ability, I would say there are proper channels to go through," McGinnity added.
"We've seen instances like this before where various consortia have been linked with possible takeovers at Aston Villa or Leeds and nothing has come to pass.
"If this is about publicity I would rather he leave the football club out of it.
"If, however, Mr Dhinsa is serious then we should sit down and have a proper discussion."
Dhinsa says his takeover depends on the completion of the club's new 32,500-seater stadium in the Foleshill area of the city where he grew up.
The Sky Blues expect to kick-off the 2005-06 season at their new home, the centrepiece of the 113m Coventry Arena complex.
