Colchester striker Scott Vernon was delighted his two goals against Ipswich Town helped them to three vital points.
Vernon's brace at Layer Road meant the U's avoided the indignity of being relegated by their East Anglian rivals.
He told BBC Essex: "Any striker is delighted to be scoring two goals in one game.
"As a footballer, you go out and play and obviously after the game you think about things like that, but for the fans it gives them bragging rights."
The former Blackpool forward, who moved to Layer Road in January, also paid tribute to strike partner Kevin Lisbie's performance.
"I felt we've played well together," he said. "He did well for my first goal and I like playing with him for the whole game."
