Colchester United manager Geraint Williams has missed out on signing West Ham's teenage forward Hogan Ephraim. The U's were looking for a loan deal until January with a view to a permanent move.
The Hammers forward, who had talks with the Essex club, had a spell on loan with Colchester last season and this season has been with QPR.
The 19-year-old was understood to have been the subject of a �500,000 bid from the Layer Road outift.
