Adams was sacked by Coventry in January |
Colchester have appointed Micky Adams as assistant to boss Geraint Williams. The former Fulham, Brighton and Leicester manager replaces Mick Harford, who left the club in June.
Adams has linked up with the squad on their pre-season training camp in Limerick and is expected to sign a contract on his return.
The 45-year-old's last job was as Coventry manager, guiding the Sky Blues to eighth in the Championship in 2006 before he was sacked in January.
