Colchester want Cureton to sign a new contract |
Colchester want 750,000 for Jamie Cureton, having initially rejected the striker's transfer request. The 31-year-old scored 23 Championship goals last season but is disillusioned by strike partner Chris Iwelumo's move to rivals Charlton.
Boss Geraint Williams does not want to lose Cureton and the club have already reportedly turned down a 250,000 offer from Championship rivals Hull.
"I'd like to to talk to the bigger teams interested in me," said Cureton.
"I got to the situation earlier this summer where I sat down and took a good look at what was left of my career for the future.
"I'm not selfish and I'm not silly. I know Colchester's situation and I know they can't match what the bigger teams are offering players.
"But I'm not 21 anymore and I know there's interest in me out there."
Williams has previously said: "We're disappointed Jamie feels he has to hand in a transfer request, but I stress we do not want to sell him.
"We're looking to build for the future and we want Jamie to be part of that."
