Boss Phil Parkinson has begun shaping Colchester's squad for their first season in the Championship by releasing four players, reports BBC Essex. Defenders Sam Stockley and Stephen Hunt will leave Layer Road, as will strikers Tony Thorpe and Gareth Williams.
Stockley, 28, and ex-Wales Under-21 man Williams, 23, spent the last two months of the season on loan at Blackpool.
Thorpe, 32, had only joined in January, while Hunt, 21, missed much of the season with an ankle injury.
