U's get ground go-ahead
Colchester are set for a new 10,000 all-seater stadium after getting the go-ahead from the local council.

Plans for the new stadium on the outskirts of town at Cuckoo Farm were approved at a planning committee meeting on Thursday evening.

The development is part of a multi-million pound plan which would include 1,500 homes, a police station, a primary school, hotel, health and leisure centre.

Colchester's chief executive Marie Partner told the club's website: "My first reaction is relief and my second reaction is that I am ecstatic.

"Colchester has always been regarded as a little club. I'd like to think that a lot of our dreams can become reality."

The plans now move on to central government for approval, but the signs are that there should be no further obstacles to the development.
