Blatherwick, 32, has not played since last March and Spireites boss Roy McFarland is anxious to get him back as soon as possible.

McFarland told BBC Radio Sheffield: "The specialist will tell Steve what will happen with his football and whether he needs an operation or not."

Blatherwick began at Notts County and was at Burnley and four other sides.
