Young Australian defender Aaron Downes has signed a new contract which will keep him at Chesterfield until 2008. Despite his progress being stalled by an ankle injury Downes, 20, has made 21 first-team appearances since arriving at Saltergate in August 2004.
Boss Roy McFarland told the Spireites website: "He's a youngster with lots of potential and is learning all the time.
"We're delighted he wants to commit his future to Chesterfield and I predict he will only get better."
