 Blatherwick regrets his actions |
Chesterfield defender Steve Blatherwick has apologised to the club and fans for his behaviour against Stockport. Blatherwick was seen to punch out at opponent Kevin Ellison and was dismissed, resulting in a three-match ban for violent conduct.
He told the club's website: "It is the first time in my career that I have been sent off for throwing a punch.
"I am utterly disgusted for allowing myself to be provoked and I am sorry for my part in the incident."
Blatherwick will be suspended for three matches later this month, missing the homes games against Swindon and Hartlepool and the away trip to Colchester.
He added: "I am experienced enough to know that throwing a punch in retaliation on a football field, even if no real contact is made can lead to a sending off.
"I apologise to all the fans and everyone involved at the club."
