Chester City may have to call off their prestigious pre-season friendly with Liverpool as it clashes with a race meeting at the nearby Roodee.
City announced last week that Liverpool would be sending a side to the Deva Stadium on Saturday 12 July.
But the club were quickly contacted by Cheshire police who told them that Chester races have already scheduled a meeting on the same day.
City manager Simon Davies says that to call off the game would be a blow.
"It would hit us financially as we would have a full house," said Davies. "And it's a great incentive for the lads knowing that they have a chance to play Liverpool."
Davies acknowledged the difficulties for the local police in covering both events but says he hopes matters can be resolved so the game can go ahead.
The Roodee is situated a mile away from the Deva Stadium next to the city's main thoroughfare in the direction of the football ground.
