Chester City manager Simon Davies has confirmed that Paul Linwood will be his club captain next season.

The 24-year-old defender, signed from Tranmere in 2006, penned a new two-year deal at the club last week.

He told BBC Radio Merseyside: "Simon sold the club to me. The captaincy was a big selling point, and the fact he wanted to build the team around me."

Meanwhile, City have had a bid of �30,000 for Vauxhall Motors striker Paul Taylor turned down.

The 22-year-old former Manchester City trainee scored 18 goals for the Blue Square North side last season.

Vauxhall chairman Alan Bartlam told BBC Radio Merseyside: "We have been unable to agree a transfer deal with Chester City for the services of Paul Taylor. As such the striker remains at Riveracre Park for the time being."

City are now thought likely to turn their attentions to Bangor City striker Ashley Stott.

Chester's previous captain was veteran centre-half Paul Butler, 35, whose future at the club remains uncertain.
