Wright left his post just before the season started |
Chester have spoken out to clarify their position over former manager Mark Wright's shock exit the day before they returned to the Football League. A statement from the club's directors said he had "persistently flouted his managerial position" with regard to the budget and rejected a new deal.
"Mr Wright refused to sign a contract offered by CCFC to protect his own interests," it said.
"We still maintain his departure is a non-football related matter."
The board also criticised Wright for the way he had conducted himself in the job.
"Mr Wright's conduct was to be a significant factor in the departure of two senior players from the club.
"During April 2004 he was warned by the chairman as to his conduct and not to speak to other clubs regarding other managerial positions, having previously been interviewed by Tranmere Rovers," said the statement.
"When he departed Mr Wright failed even to have the decency to enter the dressing room and address his players, choosing instead to simply drive away."
