![]() | Friday, 16 November, 2001, 16:51 GMT Chester aim for top eight Chester boss Steve Mungall is targeting a top-eight finish after triggering an impressive revival at the Deva Stadium. Mungall's team have been beaten just once in the Nationwide Conference since he was brought in by new Chairman Stephen Vaughan. And although City still sit just above the relegation zone, the manager is looking for more than just beating the drop.
"Being realistic I would be looking to hit the top eight to go into the LDV Vans Trophy for next season," said Mungall. "That's not beyond us. I want the boys to aim for that, and then next year to have a really good go at promotion. That's the goal here." Mungall is looking to strengthen the squad, but has failed in his attempt to recruit the Telford pair of Neil Moore and Jake Edwards. City were not prepared to meet the asking price, but Mungall plans to keep tabs on the former Everton defender Moore. City have signed striker Gary Williams on loan for Accrington Stanley, and are still in talks with Doncaster about a possible move for midfield man Paul Carden. | Other top Chester stories: Links to more Chester stories are at the foot of the page. | ||||
