Shane Duff has been on Cheltenham's books since leaving school in 1999
Cheltenham Town defender Shane Duff is likely to be out of football for six months following Achilles surgery.
Duff was seen by a London consultant after reoccurring injury problems.
Duff, 27, who signed a new one-year deal this summer, has not played since limping off early on in the 5-4 home defeat by Bradford City in August.
His absence will almost certainly force manager Martin Allen to sign a centre-half, chairman Paul Baker having this week released funds for loan signings.
One-club man Duff has made 213 appearances for Cheltenham since first signing on as a professional in August 2000.
