Four of Cheltenham's transfer-listed players have been offered terms to leave before their contracts expire.
Midfielders Craig Armstrong, Ben Gill, Aaron Ledgister and Scott Brown all have deals until the summer of 2009.
Cheltenham manager Martin Allen told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "I felt it was fair to them.
"It allows them to start making plans because they are not going to get new contracts here and there are going to be a lot of players out of work."
He added: "They've shown good commitment and have worked hard, never missed training or been a problem."
None of the quartet have started a League One game for Allen since he arrived at the club in September.
The Robins currently have 30 players, although seven are emergency loans which can only run for a maximum of three months.
