Cheltenham captain John Finnigan is set to miss the rest of the season after being told he needs an ankle operation.

Finnigan has been out of action since October and will now be missing for a further three months.

He told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "It is the most frustrating and long-term injury I have had. I'm disappointed but at least I know where I'm going now.

"I would like to think I could get back before the end of the season but there is a possibility I might not."

He added: "I have been in limbo for a month or two but now I can have the operation done, do my rehab and look forward to getting back playing again."
