Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker has described Martin Allen as a "strong candidate" for the vacant manager's job at Whaddon Road. Allen has managed Barnet, Brentford, Milton Keynes Dons and Leicester.
Baker told the Gloucestershire Echo: "Martin Allen would be a strong candidate if he is available and interested in the job.
"He is young, hungry and ambitious and has never been sacked. He has always left clubs of his own volition."
Baker added: "I would say he would be a candidate of equal standing with our caretaker boss Keith Downing, and it would be a difficult decision to choose between them."
Allen left Leicester by mutual consent in August 2007 after just three months at the helm.
He had signed a three-year deal in May, but his relationship with Foxes chairman Milan Mandaric quickly deteriorated.
