Cheltenham assistant manager Keith Downing will take charge of the Robins at Chesterfield on Saturday. His promotion is just for one game to allow boss John Ward to have a few days away from the club to recover from a small operation on his knee.
Downing has been number two at Cheltenham since July 2004 when he left his post as Wolves reserves coach.
He had earlier held the position of Academy coach when he first joined the Molineux club in March 1999.
