Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has told his side they need to "wake up" before their hopes of defending their Premier League title evaporate.

The Blues meekly surrendered 3-1 at Arsenal on Monday and have now gone six league matches without a victory and dropped to fourth in the table.

"There is a lot of disappointment because the difficult moment continues," said the Italian.

"We are losing position in the table. We have to wake up immediately."

Chelsea went behind to an Alex Song goal against Arsenal before Blues midfielder Michael Essien inadvertently helped the Gunners grab a second through Cesc Fabregas.

Florent Malouda was caught in possession and Arsenal capitalised with Theo Walcott slotting in.

Branislav Ivanovic pulled a goal back for Chelsea but they were ultimately beaten in comfortable fashion.

"I think we have a possibility to come back and fight for the title but we cannot have this type of performance in the future," added Ancelotti.

"We don't have to think about the title, we have to think about moving on from this moment. We have to prepare well for the next game [against Bolton] and try to win."

Chelsea's last victory came on 10 November against Fulham but Ancelotti, who led the club to the Premier League and FA Cup double last season, played down suggestions that his job is under threat.

When asked about how long Blues owner Roman Abramovich would continue to be patient, Ancelotti replied: "I don't know. Obviously he won't be happy at this moment.

"I will take my responsibility but this is a question you have to ask him, not me.

"I'm not afraid about my job. Everyone said I did a fantastic job last year. Now people are asking me about my job.

"We have to do better, obviously. It's not usual that Chelsea can't win for six games."

Ancelotti is understandably concerned about his team's form and stated: "I'm worried, obviously, because that's six games we've not been able to win.

"I didn't see the team playing the way we want and we had difficulty playing our football.

"We're obviously not so confident playing in this moment. I didn't expect this defeat. I was surprised by this performance.

"I saw very good training sessions this week, so I was surprised by this performance."
