Lampard looks to have benefitted from placenta treatment

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard could return from injury sooner than expected to face Arsenal in Sunday's Premier League match at the Emirates.

The 31-year-old tore a thigh muscle while on England duty for the match against Brazil earlier this month and was expected to be out for three weeks.

However, Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti stated he has now returned to training.

"He has trained for the last two days and will train again on Thursday. We hope he will be fit," said the Italian.

Lampard missed the Blues' victories over Wolves and FC Porto in the Premier League and Champions League.

But, should he prove his fitness, his return to the side would provide a huge boost for Sunday's match at the Emirates against title rivals Arsenal.

His swift recovery comes after undergoing placenta treatment in Serbia.

Fresh samples of placenta are rich in stem cells, which can develop into different types of tissue like muscle and bone, and are being used in the treatment of muscle injuries in eastern Europe.

Chelsea, who beat FC Porto 1-0 on Wednesday night to ensure they will top Group D in the Champions League, currently top the Premier League table with 33 points, eight more than third-placed Arsenal.
