Drogba has committed to the Stamford Bridge club until 2012
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has signed a new three-year deal, the Premier League club have confirmed.
But the 31-year-old Ivory Coast international admitted that he came close to leaving Stamford Bridge at one point during his Blues career.
He told Chelsea TV: "Of course I had been saying things years ago like I wanted to leave but people can always change their mind.
"That was a decision because I was a bit frustrated."
He added: "But when you have a love affair with your team, you can be upset but always come back to it because this is my team.
"I've been here five years now and I love it here. It's simple. I love the club, I feel good here and I want to continue to win titles with them.
"I stay because I am ambitious to pick up lots more trophies and regain the Premier League title."
Drogba, who has scored 94 goals in 216 games for Chelsea, scored the opener in a 2-0 friendly win against Inter Milan in the United States on Tuesday, with boss Carlo Ancelotti declaring afterwards that the striker was "irreplaceable" and "a very important player for us".
He looked looked likely to depart last season after being dropped by manager Luiz Felipe Scolari but then hit a rich vein of form after Scolari was replaced by Dutchman Guus Hiddink, who has himself been replaced by Italian Ancelotti, and the striker scored the equaliser in Chelsea's 2-1 FA Cup final win over Everton in May.
He was also involved in a controversial clash with referee Tom Henning Ovrebo following the Blues' Champions League semi-final exit against Barcelona, which earned him a three-game European ban plus an additional two games suspended.
The former Marseille star added: "I have decided to extend my contract with Chelsea for two extra years and I am very happy and proud to continue to wear the blue of Chelsea until then.
"My number one objective is to win the Champions League. I am convinced that this year we can go to the end and finally lift this trophy.
"I'd like to take advantage of this message to thank the Chelsea supporters, who have always encouraged me with fervour."
Drogba has won two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and two League Cups with Chelsea since signing from French side Marseille in 2004.
It is more good news for the Stamford Bridge outfit, following the recent signing of contract extensions by winger Florent Malouda and midfielder John Obi Mikel.
