The loss of centre-back Carvalho will be a blow for Chelsea
Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho could be sidelined for a minimum of three weeks after he limped out of Wednesday's 3-0 victory over Hull.
The 30-year-old, who only returned to action last week after a month out with a knee ligament injury, suffered a thigh problem near the end of the game.
The Blues made an initial assessment of the injury as they left the KC Stadium.
Boss Luiz Felipe Scolari said he may be without Carvalho until late November, ruling him out of about five games.
The Portugal star is likely to miss the Premier League matches against Sunderland, Blackburn and West Brom, the Champions League game against Roma and the Carling Cup tie with Burnley.
Meanwhile, Scolari is hopeful that Joe Cole will be fit to face Sunderland on Saturday, even though the midfielder was substituted after feeling pain in an ankle.
